The County Clerk is a division of the Marin County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk office.

Please allow enough time for transactions to be completed by 3:30 p.m.  No processing after 3:30 p.m. 

Welcome to the Marin County Clerk’s office!

The primary functions of the County Clerk are:

  • Issues marriage licenses and performs Civil Wedding Ceremonies.
  • Registers Domestic Partners, Professional Photocopiers, Unlawful Detainer Assistants, Legal Document Assistants, Process Servers and Humane Animal Services Officers.
  • Issues ID cards to Professional Photocopiers, Unlawful Detainer Assistants, Legal Document Assistants and Process Servers.
  • Accepts and indexes Fictitious Business Name Statements, Abandonments of Fictitious Business Name, and Statements of Withdrawal from Partnership of a Fictitious Business Name Statement.
  • Files Notary bonds, commissions and oaths.
  • Posts certain environmental documents and legal notices.
  • Maintains a list of public registries.
