Welcome to the Marin County Assessor's Office

What the Assessor is responsible for

By law, the Assessor must:

  • Find all taxable property in Marin County
  • Identify the owners and describe the property
  • Set the value of all taxable property
  • Apply legal exemptions and exclusions
  • Complete the annual assessment roll with assessed values
  • Keep records for all assessed property

Taxable property includes:

  • Real property (land and buildings)
  • Personal property
  • Business equipment and fixtures
  • Manufactured homes and floating homes
  • Boats and airplanes
  • Possessory interests (like private use of public land)

Note: The Assessor does not set tax rates or collect taxes.
