Vital Records information

The Recorder's Office can issue copies of birth, death and public marriage certificates.

What we do have

The Marin County Recorder’s Office may issue certified copies of Vital Records which include:

  • Births that happened in Marin County from the 1850s to now
  • Deaths that happened in Marin County from the 1850s to now
  • Public marriages if the license was registered in Marin County, even if the ceremony happened in a different county

What we do not have

  • Records of births or deaths that happened in another county or state
  • Sealed birth certificates after an adoption
  • Marriage licenses that were issued by another county, even if the ceremony took place in Marin
  • Divorce decrees (contact the Marin County Superior Court)
  • Records of births or deaths that occurred within the last six weeks, which may only be available with Marin County's Office of Vital Statistics

Current vital record fees

As of January 2, 2022, the fees are:

  • Birth certificate - $29.00 per copy
  • Death certificate - $24.00 per copy
  • Marriage certificate - $17.00 per copy
