Where do I record a document?

Prepared documents should be presented to the Recorder's Office either in person or by mail.

Same-day Recordings end at 3:00 p.m. Documents must be examined and approved prior to that time.

Our trained examiners review all documents at the counter to make sure they meet Basic recording requirements and title-specific requirements set by California law.

By standard mail

Office hours

  • For same-day recording, documents must be reviewed before 3 p.m.
  • Documents received after 3 p.m. may still be accepted with payment, then recorded the next business day.

Payment options

  • Cash (we do not accept bills larger than $20).
  • Check or money order (payable to Marin County Recorder).
  • Debit or credit card (additional fees apply).
